Students who wish a more focused major in history may choose one of two concentrations: Public History or Intellectual History/Philosophy.

PUBLIC HISTORY CONCENTRATION

The public history concentration exposes students to how history is presented to and received by the public. Public historians are employed in museums, national parks, libraries and archives and other historical sites. Public historians teach history outside of the traditional classroom setting.

HIS 1070 - American History I Credit(s): 3
HIS 1080 - American History II Credit(s): 3
COM 1000 - Public Speaking Credit(s): 3
HIS 3745 - Introduction To Public History Credit(s): 3
HIS 3940 - Intern Public His/Appalachian Study Credit(s): 3
HIS 3900 - Introduction to Historical Research and Writing Credit(s): 3 (minimum grade of C-)
HIS 4900 - Research Seminar In History Credit(s): 3
Must complete HIS 3900 with a minimum grade of C- first.

History Upper Level Electives 15 hours

Students must choose at least one of the courses below. The remaining 12 electives may be chosen from upper level history courses not taken.
