The history of Europe in the twentieth century from the outbreak of World War I to the present. Topics include the crisis of liberalism, the revolt against positivism, the origins of World War I, the Russian Revolution, rise of fascism/Nazism, World War II, the Holocaust, Europe in the bi-polar world, decolonization and the “revolutions” of 1989.
