HIS 3755 - Historic Preservation

This course introduces students to the field of historic preservation, a discipline dedicated to the long-term protection and care of the built environment. Students in this class will develop knowledge of architectural history and will be able to recognize how architectural styles and features changed over time. Students will also learn about motivations for and challenges to historic preservation initiatives. They will become familiar with the National Register of Historic Places nomination process, and a core component of this class will be a community project, which typically involves drafting historic designation proposals to submit to granting agencies.
