HIS 4420 - Modern Europe From 1789-1914

This course covers the history of Europe during the ‘long’ nineteenth century from the French Revolution to World War I. It focuses on political, cultural, and social developments common to Europe during this period. Topics include the development of political ideologies such as socialism, liberalism, and conservatism, as well as events such as the revolutions of 1789, 1830 and 1848, the Crimean War, and the creation of Italy and Germany as nation states.
