PBH 3010 - Introduction To Global Health

This interdisciplinary course combines classroom discussion and interactive instruction to introduce key concepts and current issues in global health, emphasizing the challenges diseases and conditions of global importance, patterns of mortality and morbibity, social, economic and political determinants, social inequalities, and the population based and institutional responses to prevent and control disease. The course will challenge students to consider how “Global = Local”, exploring connections and similarities between “global health” and public health in the United States, especially within the Appalachian Region. It is designed to support a liberal arts education through the development of social responsibility, critical thinking, communication skills, and increased knowledge of the world.
