SPA 4250 - Topics in Hispanic Cultural Studies

Credit(s) 3

This course represents a multidisciplinary approach to Latin American Culture. After an initial debate on the history of cultural studies, its theoretical legacies, and its current state in the Latin America field, this course will explore question of nationhood, national and ethnic identities, popular and mass culture, multicultural debates, cultural institutions, as well as gender and queer studies. This course will include photography, painting, cinema, theater, television, and literary texts. We will discuss these disciplines in the larger context of cultural production and consumption.
