Public Health Minor

The minor in public health is designed to introduce students to the field of public health, including historical development, foundational principles, professional opportunities, and global health and contemporary public health issues. It will serve as a foundation for further study in various fields such as public health, social sciences, health professions, law, technology, and health care management.

Students will develop intellectual and practical skills, personal and social responsibility, and participate in interdisciplinary, integrative and applied learning. The minor will consist of 18 credit hours, 12 of which must be at the 3000/4000 level. The minor will emphasize the challenges of rural public health and health disparities in central Appalachia, including influences of regional culture, economy, politics, and behavior on health outcomes.
